![]() Straight Talk announces LG Optimus 2X as its first 4G LTE Android smartphone. The phone will use AT&T network since AT&T is the one who supports LTE, not T-Mobile, and will offer unlimited 4G LTE speeds for $45 a month. This announcement would be quite radical if everyone is convinced that that’s exactly how things are. For quick review check out the video. For more in-depth review, please, continue reading. VIDEO Straight Talk announces LG Optimus 2X as its first 4G LTE Android - YouTube! Even though on Straight Talk’s reserve page is clearly written “4G LTE”, that can easily be misleading advertising. At Howard Forums, there is a lot of convincing about that not being possible since it is hard to believe that AT&T would allow prepaid access to its LTE network. As we know, AT&T’s own prepaid lineup, GoPhone, does not offer such service and not even close to that. LTE service is a premium service for the top two carriers AT&T and Verizon Wireless and offering it to a MVNO for as low as $45 a month would be quite an exception to the rule, at this moment, of course. Even if that would be the fact, Straight Talk to offer 4G LTE service on LG Optimus 2X, it is just not possible that it would be truly unlimited. Even so far, Straight Talk has been sending warnings or in some cases, terminating the service to users for using too much data without being precise on what is the actual limit. The price for the unlimited 4G LTE service is also unbelievable, only $45 per month, knowing that AT&T charges at least double that price for speeds so fast. LG Optimus 2X is a high-end Android smartphone with specs as 1 Ghz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4-inch display (800×480), 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash, 1080p HD video capture, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, HDMI video output, microSD card slot for 32GB storage and 4GB of memory included. The price of the LG Optimus 2X stays unknown as well as the exact date of the phone’s availability (we can expect it by the end of the month). We can only remain patient and see what network this phone will use. It is more likely that it will use T-Mobile’s HSPA+, so called 4G but even in that case, this is a great for Straight Talk users. They will have a high-end phone pared with a $45 unlimited plan, much better Android handset than the existing ones, Samsung Galaxy Precedent and LG Optimus Q. It remains to see if Straight Talk announces LG Optimus 2X as its first 4G LTE Android with a good reason. |
